My dear people of Luceti --

An invasion, all under the guise of a fantasy. What’s been done will not be forgotten. Certainly not by you, and not by the denizens of a dozen other enclosures who suffered similar attacks at the same time. As we speak, programmers and engineers hard at work combing through the barrier’s nuts and bolts. If the Cultists and his Lordship exploited some natural weakness in the dome, they will find it. Patch it up. Curious, isn’t it, that the Count chose yours to invade with his own two feet?

But there are other matters to discuss. I spoke with some of you only a few months ago. Let me announce more completely what I, back then, only intimated. I’m Carol, and I intend to spend some time in our little town. If you like, you can consider my resolve to continue my work here a sign of good faith. I remain unarmed and -- I assure you -- wholly peaceable. In this way, I hope I may have faith in you as well. After all, we are kin in a strange kind of way.

It is my duty -- as well as my pleasure -- to be Luceti’s liaison with the Organization. You must have many questions, concerns, and many many curses. Bring them to me, and we’ll see what can be done. We can talk here. But if any of you find the journals distasteful, you can also come have a seat with me at the sweet little tea shop. I’ll be there for the afternoon.

Very much so. In fact, I'm almost certain I'm under-selling it.

...It was hard to inspire confidence in populations who may have suffered under the Count's particular way of operating things. Luceti is one such population.

This is only my personal theory, mind you -- I don't know what my superiors think of the matter. But I wouldn't doubt he came here seeking some particular revenge.

I escaped nothing. At least, not in any conventional meaning of the world. I used to live in an enclosure. This enclosure, in fact. And I see my time here as having been incredibly productive.

What does he want, with being one of them? I thought he was supposed to be...responsible for the stuff that happened to us.

Then...share the information you wish to share with me. Tell me where you come from, how you end up with the Malnosso, how they treated you, what they have or have not done to you.

I have been taken by them for a couple of times. One time nothing happened, the other time I became an adult. It is quite shocking to discover oodles of hairs on your legs, you see?

Are you familiar with what happened when your fellows visited the Count's keep?

The Organization is large. There are always positions in need of being filled -- I, myself, started with their HR department a few years before leaving my enclosure. MSF recruits generally enlist shortly after an enclosure's half-life point. These are the sorts of deals I'm here to broker.

An hour is perfect. Look for me by the books on cooking. Recipes, and such. I can kill two birds with one stone, then, as they say.

[ a gentle patience suffuses her voice: ] It's perfectly right and understandable that you should be angry, Rin. Don't apologize for it. It's a powerful emotion. Noble, too, when bent to the right cause.

So, if there are residents who express interest, you may help them in finding ... job opportunities within the Organization. On a more official level than participating through the MARS missions.

[With that he's over and out, and heads on his way to the library. He hasn't been here in a while, but everything is placed where he remembers it. That would put the cooking section... this way. He strides around some shelves, hands in his pockets, looking to spot her.]
