My dear people of Luceti --

An invasion, all under the guise of a fantasy. What’s been done will not be forgotten. Certainly not by you, and not by the denizens of a dozen other enclosures who suffered similar attacks at the same time. As we speak, programmers and engineers hard at work combing through the barrier’s nuts and bolts. If the Cultists and his Lordship exploited some natural weakness in the dome, they will find it. Patch it up. Curious, isn’t it, that the Count chose yours to invade with his own two feet?

But there are other matters to discuss. I spoke with some of you only a few months ago. Let me announce more completely what I, back then, only intimated. I’m Carol, and I intend to spend some time in our little town. If you like, you can consider my resolve to continue my work here a sign of good faith. I remain unarmed and -- I assure you -- wholly peaceable. In this way, I hope I may have faith in you as well. After all, we are kin in a strange kind of way.

It is my duty -- as well as my pleasure -- to be Luceti’s liaison with the Organization. You must have many questions, concerns, and many many curses. Bring them to me, and we’ll see what can be done. We can talk here. But if any of you find the journals distasteful, you can also come have a seat with me at the sweet little tea shop. I’ll be there for the afternoon.

[Jade makes his way to the tea shop almost immediately with a dignified stride.]

Hello Carol. [He keeps his voice calm, polite.] My name is Robert Lutece. I don't believe we've spoken before.

I've a few questions, if you don't mind.

You said this was an invasion? So, it was not of the Malnosso's doing? [Not that he'll entirely believe the answer. After all, Comstock told similar lies to cover up his misdeeds. But it's an avenue worth pursuing. Especially before he gets to his main interest.]

[liaising]

[Carol is laughably easy to spot. Partially because her sensible blouse has a sticker standing out on one shoulder. She's had a good amount of foot traffic, but seems to consistently be nursing a single mug of coffee. A clipboard and a few scattered papers take up residence before her. Every so often, she seems to wave another onlooker forward. Always with a cheerful, encouraging smile.]

Ex-Malnosso's doing, if we must be frank and honest about these things. But no -- this had little to do with the Organization.

[onlyeffie]

[Oh no you don't, bitch. YOU HAVE EFFIE'S JOB. THE JOB EFFIE WANTS.]

Liaison, are you? And how did you come by that position?

[Her voice is hoarse and very, very calm. Placid, even.]

[liaising]

Time, miss. [And then, a little cheekily:] And by cooperating with my own liaison.

[Curious. Still, it might be a useful scapegoat. He knew a thing or two about the use of those.]

I don't suppose there's any way we can assist in the repair of our defences. I should very much like to offer what help I can if it's needed.

What is your field, sir?

Quantum physics. I've built several of my own machines, as nothing existed to do the tasks I've needed them for.

voice:

[liaising]

Brokering such an exchange of skills and intelligence is, indeed, exactly why I'm here. But I'm afraid it's still rather early days for so ambitious a project. Rest assured, the individuals already working on the problem are...excellent eggheads. And also from enclosures, to boot. Enclosures at a different stage than this one.

[onlyeffie]

{EFFIE GONNA SMACK A BITCH.]

Is that so? [Her sweet twitter comes off parched. She's in no shape to be having this conversation.]

You must be quite old.

voice:

[Eggheads? Well. He imagines it's some sort of Malnosso term. Or something.]

More trustworthy. I understand. [And he does. Especially with his offer. He's been here far too short of a time to be trusted, and he knows it.] The offer stands, if it's needed in the future.

[It's also a chance to learn about this place.]

[liaising]

[Meanwhile, Carol laughs off the comment with a sweetness as overbearing as it is entirely genuine.] Not terribly, really. But I came here quite young.

...Are you quite alright? You sound ill.

[He only stops briefly to put his order of tea. And then he goes to sit alongside her.]

You must be Carol. [He says quite bluntly - glancing at her name tag and then to the assorted papers.]

...We make take baby-steps together, yes? I can assess what you have to offer, and we can match you with worthy tasks. If you would like.

[liaising]

Oh! Good. I was hoping to be recognizable, but that can be a difficult thing when there are so many people I haven't met yet. And you are...?

[trinkett]

Effie paused to take a sip of water. Damn those rogue scientists. They'd cost her, she was certain; the Malnosso hadn't swooped in to fish her out of their laboratory. That was surely a sign of hesitation.

"Just a bit of a cold, my dear. I'm really tops right now. How are you feeling, hmm?"

Ready to drop dead yet and free up a position? Hmmm?

I would be happy to, ma'am.

Though. That brings me to a bit of an odd question. I've read what residents here have said about the matter, but I'd like to ask someone actually involved with the Malnosso. Simply for the sake of having the fullest span of information I can get.

[liaising]

"Excited. Nervous. You know how it is, perhaps, with first day jitters...?"

It sounded as though the woman had not a dissembling bone in her body. As though.

Ask away, sir. I'm cleared to speak on a number of topics.

[Loki appears at that tea shop a bit late. He is quite curious and there are a lot of questions that need to be anwered. Actually he has written them down and when he moves to sit across Carol he unfolds a little paper.]

If you do not mind, I have a couple of questions. I also have a great craving for tea. I see it as a good idea to combine both, yes?

[She smiles. Wide and bright and as welcoming now as she was a few hours ago. Energizer bunny, this one.]

I don't mind one bit, young sir. [She arranges a few papers of her own, makes room for his, and tilts her head.] I'm Carol. But I suspect you already knew that.

The manner in which we're brought here-- is there any controlling it?

[Whether there is or not, he might receive the same answer. But that's not his main point.]

My best work was done with a partner, you see, and I'd very much like to have her here.

[Which he has a feeling is a bit of an unusual statement. Most people here seem to want those they know to be kept out of it if possible.]

I ask only out of curiosity.

Colonel Jade Curtiss. [He says as he reaches to adjust his glasses.] There truly must be an abundance of inhabitants if you haven't been able to memorize us all by now. [He tries to be relatively civil and cordial. He needs information, after all.]

I'm afraid not. The Organization's successes have been few and so sparse as to hardly be called successes at all.
