Hm... During the time the shopkeepers went 'missing', the desert ruins had already been exposed. He wouldn't even have had to go through the barrier. Still, it would've been a lot of trouble. He must've gotten something interesting in return for toying with that ritual. Either Tyr and the shopkeepers knew too much and needed to go, or like a true scientist, he was experimenting for the sake of information.
