[At approximately 4AM in the morning of the 25th, the journals will suddenly blare with the sound of an alarm, followed quickly by this message:]

Attention, Region Six. This is an emergency. The following occupants are required to report to the teleporters in one hour to act as a reserve force for an unscheduled battle located in Region Eleven, designation Vaskoth.

[A list of names is posted.]

Those who refuse will be forcibly dragged, and we take no responsibility for any injuries obtained should that happen. Anyone not summoned will not be accepted, either as additional forces or as replacements for someone else. Weaponry and equipment not native to this world is incompatible with the nature of your location, and will therefore not be permitted. Suitable replacements may be available to you at your destination. You will rendezvous with Specialist Davis upon arrival, and he will direct you from there.

I repeat, you have one hour. Don't waste your preparation time with pointless questions. Get moving.

[Aang will stomp down to the teleporters with an intent stride fairly late. He has just come from helping to defeat the droids for Ikki, and he is most likely accompanied by Roku. He's feeling a bit indignant after dealing with everything the Malnosso tossed at his granddaughter, so he'll take his time entering the teleporter and can be stopped for a word by anyone nearby.]

Aang!

[Loki looks about as worried as Aang's probably ever seen him. Which is to say somewhat mussed.]

Where's Ikki?

[He looks sharply at Loki, thinking of all the potential traumas she'll be spared of.]

Home. And she's staying there.

[Loki's shoulders actually sag slightly with obvious relief. His expression goes from concern to a small smile.]

I am glad to hear that. Glad indeed.

[He gives Aang a small bow, hand at his heart.]

[Aang nods and untenses a little. He's not sure what to think of Loki, but either way the only gratitude he appreciates feeling is Ikki's own. The bow is only acknowledged by a quick nod.]

Me too. I'll fight as many droids as I have to in order to stop this from happening to her.

I'd no idea they could be fought off in such a manner. I shall remember that, for next time.

[No doubt it had taken a group, and he had been alone when they'd come for him. But it was something to remember, should Ikki's name appear on a list again, or Elicia's. He could lend his aid. Whether he was liked or no, a ready dagger was always welcomed to causes such as that.]

I didn't know that it would work either. I... hadn't heard of someone being able to actually fight off the droids before. But we did. So we're gonna make sure this never happens again.

[Loki nods.]

Call on me, and I shall be there.

[He wonders if Aang has any conception of how truly rare such an offer - a genuine one - is from him.]

[Aang's feelings towards Loki might have become complicated in a negative way ever since he learned of Ikki's involvement with him, but he remembers that Loki is still a god, like a spirit. So he should have some amount of respect, despite his morality. And the Avatar gives a light bow - he still doesn't look so happy, but he speaks in a calmer voice.]

Thank you. I'll keep that in mind.

[But not as a first resort. Because trust is still quite the issue.]

Aang? [Admittedly she hadn't really looked at the list much past seeing her name-- less rage-inducing that way. She has no idea if Aang has been on one of these before, come to think of it...]

You okay?

[His expression softens somewhat as he sees Nami, especially as he remembers how helpful she was to him last month.]

I'm- I'm fine. But the important thing is that Ikki's okay.

Ikki? [She's confused for a moment, and then it hits home, and her face pales.] She's on the list?

[But not here. That's telling.]

She is. But... she's not coming. Not ever. Because we saved her.

[She really. Really wants to call doubt on that. Nobody's managed to escape being hauled in by droids. (Not even Vash.) But the smile on his face stops her.]

I'm glad to hear that.

...what happened? [That seems a safe question.]

Well... once we saw her name on the list, we agreed that none of us were going to let them take her, even if it was impossible. So when the droids came, we... It was a tough battle and we thought they'd be invincible, but... we did it. We beat them.

Seriously? That's great news! [And it is. For more than one reason. She smiles brilliantly at him.] I'm glad to hear it. A draft isn't any place for a kid. Did they pull back, or did you actually destroy them?

[Somebody nearby sees Aang's hardened expression.]

Are you all right?

[Seeing Mia also softens his expression somewhat - even if part of him is irritated that she was drafted, too.]

I'm fine. Guess you could just say I had some early fighting practice. But it was worth it.

You don't need any healing, I hope.

[Because he lives with Katara, mostly.]

[Aang shook his head. Presumably she was able to take care of any wounds inflicted during the battle.]

That's okay. The important thing is we won. I don't know how, but we won. And Ikki doesn't have to come anywhere near here.

Ikki? Your little girl? ...Was drafted?

[He found himself spitting out his next words.]

What, you think they'd spare her? After they drafted Little Elicia last time?

[Obviously, Aang is still in the thick of his rough morning.]

I had hoped so. I'm sorry you all had to go through that today.

[It was something still brewing on his mind. But once it was out, he quickly realized how harsh he sounded and turned apologetic.]

Thanks, Mia. I'm sorry I snapped at you just now. I- I didn't mean to. The important thing's she's safe.

It's all right. Not even the birds are up this early, you know.

[It really is okay. It was something he needed.]
