Penalty Removal Requests

[This post is for contacting the NPC John. Think of it as an Appointments Post.

It has primarily been used in the past as a way to ICly request death penalty removals, so if you are here for that, make sure to use the Penalty Removal Request form first. Also, this is not required! While contact to John is a must for removing the death penalties, it doesn't have to be threaded out if you want to handwave it.

John is played by [personal profile] fontech and can be contacted on AIM at guynophobic or you can PM her journal. Please be patient regarding responses. If your tag isn't answered after a few days, feel free to contact her.]

[As a followup to this. Also visible to Law. ]

John --

I hope you'll allow us a few moments of your time, as it's been well over a week now since we've all returned from the draft.

As I'm certain you're aware, the enclosure has been experiencing minor shifts in time since before the draft began, and now afterwards, in light of what took place, they seem to be getting worse. We also have other observations to offer in regard to the bomb itself, as well as other questions we have in the aftermath of all of this.

If you can respond to us as soon as it is possible for you, we would appreciate it.

... and thank you, again.

[It takes a bit for him to get back to her, though at least he's not outright ignoring the message like he sometimes does. Busy scientist, stuff to do, you know the drill.]

Very little goes on within your enclosure that I'm not aware of. Not that there's much that can be done about it, most of the time...

Your gratitude is unnecessary, however. The success of the mission was all I required.

... Most of the time.

[ She's not about to argue with him over the 'gratitude'. She had said her piece and put it out there for him; it was all up to him how he wanted to take it. ]

Still, having more information about what happened would be beneficial, since the effects are still ongoing.

Beneficial? I wonder. There really isn't much you lot can do...

[Well, whatever. Can't hurt, either.]

My research is ongoing, so I don't have all the answers yet. Consider this, though: I sent dozens of you back in time to avoid a Shift-related death that is, as yet, irreversible otherwise. As reluctant as I am to call the weapon they created "natural", it is still what is scientifically defined as a natural Shift. When an Artificial Shift collides and destroys a natural Shift, there are sometimes ripples.

These ripples are aggravating a condition that was already beginning to appear throughout the world. It's quite fascinating, really, but it's moving faster than any scientific mind can effectively study to prevent its continuation.

It sounds like you believe the ripples will be affecting us for a while longer.

[Which is a little alarming, if it's a worldwide effect. Slips in time were one thing, but slips in time that might be taken advantage of, to be used against them... but of course, that was nothing they could do anything about.]

Although ... there is another persisting problem that exists for those of us that you brought back. We aren't dead, but whatever it is that's out there at the other side of that sacrifice -- it's noticed us.
ricecakes: (I'm listening.)

I've no estimate on how, or how long, you'll be affected. This has never been done before.

[Congrats, you're the first test run.]

And that is quite interesting, indeed. Have you any thoughts on what 'it' is?

A few theories, though I don't know how much substance there is to them. The one I keep coming back to is that it's... something that was drawn to the world at an early stage and was corrupted with it. Or corrupted it, in turn.

Or, that it's something in the world, that draws and feeds... I was reminded of what we had encountered in the rogue base. Something that was being contained there, specifically, though no shifts could remove it. It was a long time ago, and my view of that was fleeting ... but when I think of the perversion of what we experienced, and some of the vague reports we've heard since then...
ricecakes: (this shit is boring.)

Fascinating.

[It's always nice to meet other intelligent people. He knows so few. As for substance, he has no thoughts on that just yet. Or at least, none he's sharing.]

Tell me what you're experiencing. What have you seen to inspire such theories?
wise_maiden: (but we give up easily)

There is a presence in this world lurking at the end of the sacrifice. That I can confirm. The ... process strips a person bare to the core to be consumed, as if they were being unraveled. For those of us who have been exposed to it, we can sometimes still feel it observing us. Pervading thought, disrupting sleep. It all culminates in... drowning in an incomprehensible abyss. There are too many speaking up about it for it to be trauma alone.
ricecakes: (I'll consider it.)

Again, fascinating.

[He doesn't sound terribly surprised, though.]

Unfortunate, is it not, that no one who has been sacrificed and revived remembers this experience. All of you are the closest we've ever gotten to a confirmation of this.

When you revived Jacob, he had still lost all ties to his world and who he had been, correct?

[She still remembers this, even if she doesn't know what has become of him.] While we were all brought back to a time before it happened, memories and experience intact, there is still the implication of a lingering connection to that presence. Is there a chance that any of that applies to the rest of us? The chance that we may no longer be tethered to our worlds?
ricecakes: (not impressed.)

[personal profile] ricecakes 2014-10-01 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
Correct.

[Probably why he'd been so pissed at the time. He hadn't given much thought to Jacob, truth be told.]

I don't think that what connects you to your world has ceased to exist. Such a severance only occurs when every piece of your previous life is erased from you. That sort of change can take centuries and countless revivals. You aren't there yet.
wise_maiden: (there is something curious about this)

[personal profile] wise_maiden 2014-10-01 12:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Centuries and countless revivals... or a single sacrifice.

[But, admittedly, there is some relief to be had from those words. It was the source for a good percentage of lingering stress from the experience.]

... Which we've been brought back from, and with all memory intact, at that. So that is good news. [Unexpectedly so. She doubts he would go out of his way to placate anyone.]

Is that part of the reason why the shift only applied to Luceti's residents, as opposed to the others out there?

Part of it. The fact of the matter is that the power of this technology isn't unlimited, especially in such an experimental state. I saved whoever I could save. The rest were unlucky.
