[Voice | LOCKED TO RESIDENTS]

Rin Okumura, I require your presence in the Battle Dome.

The rest of you, kindly pay attention, as I'd rather not have to repeat myself. Tomorrow morning - that is, the morning of October 1st, going by the ever-popular Earth calendar everyone seems to favour - an Artificial Shift will occur and pull you back in time, similar to the one a number of you experienced in the Zompania enclosure. Unlike that shift, however, this time you'll be going back years, not days. A few hundred, give or take. Your enclosure existed back then, more or less, but the technology level of that era was... lacking, to say the least. A few of you might remember the old days, so just imagine them older still. Establish yourselves and get comfortable, as you may be there for an extended period. This is not your typical shift, and the Malnosso are unaware of what's happening. Keep it that way.

You'll receive instructions after you arrive. I can't give you specifics because it's really up to you to make any progress, but you're a smart group. I'm sure you'll figure it out. Bring with you only what you can carry- necessities, not luxuries. If all goes according to plan, you'll return to your homes as they are now with no harm done. I can offer you no guarantees, however trust me when I say that everything you leave behind is better here rather than there.

Rise early, be prepared, try not to throw up. It's a significant jump and I can't promise it'll be a pleasant experience. I'd apologize, but it really is for your own good. Best of luck to you, and hopefully you'll fare better than those of the past did.

[Somehow facing the concept that they could have met the same consequence is more frightening to him than the idea that dying in that explosion could've been the end. Thanks are an order.]

Well I, for one, thank you for making progress. [With that said, he puts the thought out of his head. He'll deal with it later.] While we're sorta on the subject though, permanently or not, what happens if we die in the past?

The technology that brought you back before won't exist back then. If you die, you should be revived within a week as normal. If you're sacrificed, it's likely you'll be dead for good.

It should be some consolation, however, that at the time to which you're being sent, sacrifices hadn't yet begun to occur.

That's a recent thing? [Well, recent by this world's standards. Enough that only going back this far, it hadn't been a thing. Not having to worry about being sacrificed is a comfort to know, but again he can't help but think of the General. He lasers in on it.] When did that start?

I don't have a confirmed date; it was a long time before any reports of cultist activity reached us. Some time after, is what I know for certain.

You'll understand more when you arrive.

[They have a chance to put an end to sacrifices. Possibly the war.

John doesn't say it. They have a chance for many things, the way he talks of how their actions will determine what can be done - guaranteeing it would be disastrous, when it all depends on them. But the potential is certainly there, both in the promise that this will make sense later and in spelling it out in stricter terms to Korra.]

Understood.

[He should leave the guy be, maybe determine what all he considers necessary to take back--]

[Actually, on that note, he does have one more question.]

Hey, do you have an estimate for how the food situation was back then? You said certain technology didn't exist back then, so I take it self-stocking groceries are out.

Ah, yes. Fair question. I believe it was harvest time at the point to which you're going, but such a leap in additional residents will catch them off guard. Any food supplies you can carry, as well as seeds for spring, would do them some good.

I can manage that. [And hopefully then some. He makes a note to stop by the basement in the convenience store. He'll need to look for seeds too.]

Any differences in the animalife from what we're used to today, or should that be the same?

[Mostly he's asking for hunting purposes, but he remembers Shift Hunters are also ancient. Best to prepared for what you can hunt, as well as for what can hunt you.]

Not much difference, no. The woodland animals are less domesticated and there's significantly more livestock, and I don't recall there being any creatures brought in from other worlds- at least, not those without wings.

Heh. That somehow sounds more favorable...

[Maybe with a little finagling they could keep it that way. More livestock in the present would give them great means to be more self-sufficient. They'll have to be more careful with the woodland creatures, though.]

That's all I need to know for now. Thanks for your time.

Thank you for your cooperation.

[It happens so rarely around here. You'd think people don't like him for some reason!]
