This is one large experiment, is it not? As captives, we are the specimens, and our ability to endure multiple tests of varying natures means that we have passed the tests we've previously undergone. Or at least, our usefulness has not run out, even if we as people are changing and being altered by said experiments. There is a barrier locking us in. Apparently people can be brought back to life, though it comes with a cost. The only similar factor among all of us here is the wings we were given. If this is a random sampling, one wonders what sort of purpose you inevitably have for us.
If you can repair death and alter the states of any of our minds, there must be a reason that you don't restore our mental states after each experiment. So perhaps that's what you're looking for - the damage wrought upon ourselves, until a particular point where we become useless as specimens.
Just so that you know, a dime novel is a little book written back in my olden days by aspiring novelists. Or just kids who're good at writing. You print off fifty or so copies, sell them for a dime a piece.
They were all dramatic pieces of shit. That should give you a clue.
It's not a translation error for reasons I'm sure you'd rather not hear, but I think the chances of dimes being used as currency in other worlds is quite slim.
How were you able to get here from Earth? Are Earthlings behind this experiment?

Are you going to answer my question?

Don't get so pushy, kid. And stop throwing yourself at John, he's really not your type.

The two of you are the only opening we've got into figuring this out. Until I get somewhere, I'll continue asking questions.

Are all the Malnosso from Earth, or are they pulled from different places like us?

John is interested in one thing; helping himself. If you get something out of it, good for you. But he's...well, he's kind of a curse.
