Attention, Region Six. This is an emergency. The following occupants are required to report to the teleporters in one hour to act as a reserve force for an unscheduled battle located in Region Eleven, designation Vaskoth.

Those who refuse will be forcibly dragged, and we take no responsibility for any injuries obtained should that happen. Anyone not summoned will not be accepted, either as additional forces or as replacements for someone else. Weaponry and equipment not native to this world is incompatible with the nature of your location, and will therefore not be permitted. Suitable replacements may be available to you at your destination. You will rendezvous with Specialist Davis upon arrival, and he will direct you from there.

I repeat, you have one hour. Don't waste your preparation time with pointless questions. Get moving.

[Mordin had arrived not much before Adele has. He stands waiting by the teleporter wearing a padded hiking pack over his armor. While he waits, he skims through the journal, making sure people are properly organized and offering advice on medical and physical preparedness.]

[That...wasn't human. If it was human they were suffering several unique and extreme physical disorders that she couldn't recall the names of at the moment. Still. She clears her throat and manages to keep a straight face. Barely.]

Professor Mordin?

[Hearing his name, he closes the journal and looks up, smiling.]

Ah, Dr. LeBlanc, I presume? [He steps towards her, extending a hand.] Just "Mordin" is fine. Much faster.

[Oh dear lord it was him. And he's smiling. At least she thinks it's a smile. She responds in kind with something tight lipped and mildly strained.]

You are correct, Mordin. [She takes the extended hand- it felt normal enough. Ish. And shook it.] You are...not. Human.

[Tact. She normally has some. She swears.]

And you are perceptive. [He chuckles, not taking any offense. It's not something he's used to back home, but he's grown used to the stares and confusion he receives when meeting new people here.]

I have my moments.

[She huffs a soft laugh and shakes her head.]

Normally I am far more articulate, I assure you. Might I ask the name of your species?

[That even sounds like something that would be served with melted butter and white wine. She bites back the thought and nods.]

Medical techniques must have come a long way.

Assuredly so. Took a course on Old World human medical practice. Lots of chopping, not enough curing. Messy, but effective.

I have been accused of being a Butcher once before- though by a man from further behind in earth's timeline than myself. I tend to avoid amputations as much as possible. Too much potential for infection and bloodloss if you don't have the proper facilities.

Public opinion of doctors no different now. [In truth, he's been called much worse, though typically not from patients...]

Many alternatives to amputation. Surgical implant, bone reconstruction, medicine to prevent infection, disease, omni-gel to seal wounds in short-term.

Omni-gel?

[The rest was familiar enough, but that term. It sounded incredibly useful.]

All-purpose gel with varied uses. Medical variant is Medi-gel. Useful as anesthetic and clotting agent.

[He lowers his sack to the ground, before producing a container housing a number of gel orbs.]

Especially effective against burns, infection and laceration. Creates seal over skin to repel water, gasses, contaminants, while inducing rapid healing. Handy on battlefield, but not to be intended for permanent solution to major injuries.

It sounds like something I have heard of that was in development by a handful of medical companies but nothing had actually been produced in my time.

[She blinks at the gel, partly fascinated and partly concerned.]

I do not know if that will be permitted through into the next enclosure, Mordin.

Synthesized them myself, here, in Luceti. Relied on commander to carry medi-gel at home. Corporation producing gel keeps tight lid on ingredients, but easily accessible, if you know where to look.

[He chuckles.]

Then I need not fear it's loss. Excellent.

[She nods, more to herself than to Mordin.]

Whenever we get back do you think you could explain and perhaps demonstrate it's synthesis to me?

Would be delighted to. Would show you know, if time allowed; the more equipped, the better.

Perhaps if we are fortunate there will be a lab of some sort in the enclosure we are to be sent to.

Hope to be so lucky. Have some supplies for making medicine, as needed, but not much. Too little time. Some ingredients missing, not enough of others. Hope to find salvageable material in the field.

You may, you may not. I would not count on it.

"Hope for best, prepare for worst." Unable to prepare, so will not hope, either.
