Attention, Region Six. This is an emergency. The following occupants are required to report to the teleporters in one hour to act as a reserve force for an unscheduled battle located in Region Eleven, designation Vaskoth.

Those who refuse will be forcibly dragged, and we take no responsibility for any injuries obtained should that happen. Anyone not summoned will not be accepted, either as additional forces or as replacements for someone else. Weaponry and equipment not native to this world is incompatible with the nature of your location, and will therefore not be permitted. Suitable replacements may be available to you at your destination. You will rendezvous with Specialist Davis upon arrival, and he will direct you from there.

I repeat, you have one hour. Don't waste your preparation time with pointless questions. Get moving.

[Albert is still tugging on a scarf over his jacket as he walks over to the front of the house, his scabbard banging against his thigh as he did not secure the belt tightly. Rune is still pulling at his hair as Albert walks over to Raine and immediately opens the door, allowing the owl to escape outside.]

Let's get going. [Short. Succinct. Interrupted REM cycle.]

[He doesn't need to tell her twice; with a nod she's stepping right through the open door, already creating a little hanging light for their walk. It's always strange when she has to leave the house without her weapon.]

I left a note for Caesar about the animals.

[He nods, taking note of the lack of her staff as they step off the porch to leave.]

He's likely used to this routine by now. [Once his scarf is properly on, he adjusts his belt.] Will you be stopping by the smithy?

I was considering it, although if it's too crowded, I may just have to wait and see what their replacements have to offer.

We may be there earlier than others. You should be able to find something, unless the hope is that there will be magical weapons wherever we are going. [He had no idea what to expect from their "suitable replacements."]

At the very least I'd just want to find something basic for defending, and with the smithy involved we don't know for certain what may be rejected.

They separate their created weaponry from what is Shifted into the building. Or is there something else you are thinking of in respect to that 'not native to this world' restriction?

If any of the created ones have properties from otherworldly techniques, it might not be useable. But of course this all depends on if there's time to grab something anyway. [At least their walking seems to be going along smoothly enough.]

[Albert reaches into his pocket and glances at his pocket watch.] I would say you have enough time. At worst, a droid will come along and drag you to the teleporters if you spend too much time browsing.

I'd like to avoid that, but I'll see what I can find. Will you be heading straight to the tunnels?

I... [He trails off deliberately, as he's thinking about it more.] I will be heading to the grocery store, since I did not get anything out the door.

It will be a good idea to bring something a few quick meals can be made of, like sandwiches.

I will see if I can find chocolate and dried meat as well, in case we are immediately sent into the field. [Which seemed like the case, with the emergency call and everything.]

Fruit might not be a bad idea either.

Is that a request?

It was a suggestion, but I could officially make it a request, as long as you don't mind. Having a quick and easy on-hand snack would be very helpful.

I do not mind. [If he was going to be over there, he might as well find something she wants to eat as well.] I will be avoiding berries, though. [Too likely to be ruined.]

Oranges or tangerines, perhaps? [She does have that preference for citrus.]

[He nods at her line of thinking.] I was thinking oranges, since they have a thicker rind. Anything else? [It wouldn't be long before they would have to part ways to go to the different stores.]

[Lem-- no, that wouldn't be practical.] Hmm. I can't think of anything more specific. Perhaps dried fruits or pretzels?

Dried fruit would be more practical. Even if the pretzels could be guaranteed to remain intact, they may make you more thirsty. But I can still get them if you wish to eat them before we leave. [Because pretzels were such a great breakfast item. Really.]

No, you make a good point. I'll stick with the fruit.

All right. I will try to be quick in there, and then we will meet at the tunnel entrance. [He looks briefly in that direction.]

Sounds like a solid plan to me. We'll have a lot of quick thinking ahead of us. Do you need any armor? I can probably find something at least in leathers for you.

[He shakes his head at the question.]

I will assess my options over there before deciding if I will need armor. Armor should be easier to replace than a particular weapon.
