[Appearing on the journals is a written message as follows. A voice option is provided for a computerized reading of the text.]

Attention Luceti Residents.

The following names are being called to participate in a strike against the cultist hordes:
[the names listed here appear on the journal.]

All subjects are required to arrive at the tunnels at 8AM on the 27th of March for deployment. All listed individuals are required to be present. Subjects will then be escorted to TERRACE for battle preparation and further details.

Target will be Region One, a former Malnosso stronghold, presently in cultist hands. Subjects are advised to prepare for combat in forested areas. Further information will be made available at TERRACE. Questions and answers will not be provided at this time.

[The Malnosso will not reply to this message, but everyone is free to use this post to discuss among themselves, whether using voice options on the journal or doing action threads.]

[Oh no...no no no. While he knows very little of Pilouette, he's talked to her before and she didn't seem like the type to fight or to be able to defend herself in something like this.

He's quick to the voice call to be right there.]

I'll keep you safe. Stick with me when you have to, okay, Pilouette? I know how to fight and I can make you a taser tonight. It might not be much but it'll be something. If you can, just stay in the safe areas.

Since we will be on a sky facility for awhile, you may have a chance to see for yourself -- other than the moon, the sky is entirely empty at night.

I don't know. I know there have been other missions to various places but I don't have a lot of details on the ones that happened before this one. I can ask, if you'd like?

Two days notice. More time then they usually give… I don’t know if I like this or not.

[And then there’s the crisp tone of a man taking charge.]

All medical personnel, please assemble in the Dome for an emergency meeting at 3:00pm. I repeat. ALL medical personnel, whether or not you’ve been enlisted on the draft. Anyone with first aid experience who has been enlisted is welcome and encouraged to come as well.

[We got things to get done.]

[This next part comes both written and through voice.]

… for everyone else in Luceti who is new to the enclosure or has never been on a draft or mission, I’ll share what we’ve learned so far from the drafts and missions and hopefully cover things you might be wondering. But first, a warning.

Don’t go it alone.

I cannot stress this enough. Don’t go it alone. Even the strongest fighter can quickly be at a disadvantage if the conditions are right, and quickly overcome. Get a partner. Better yet have a group at your back. Make sure your members have varied skills… both in special abilities and technologies, close, mid, and long range. The reason why will become apparent when I’m done.

Make sure you are prepared to survive for a while: this means packing food, clothes, bedding, medical supplies, ammunition… whatever else you need to make it. The Malnosso will not provide beyond what you initially ask of them, if they are inclined to provide at all. Be prepared to rough it in the forest – we won’t be getting a cushy hotel to crash in after a day of fighting’s done.

At least, that hasn’t been the case for a long, long time.

Non-combatants, make sure you arm yourselves. Others will protect you, but things happen and you are your last line of defence. I’d recommend everyone gets a hold out weapon just in case. Even if you can’t fight, it does not mean you will be useless. We need people to help run the camps, tend to injured people and run communications. These jobs are just as essential as fighting.

You might also find yourselves ill or facing weird effects once shifted to the battlefield. These are Shift incompatibilities and they wear off in a day of two. It is doubly important in that case you stick with people until you’re unaffected.

As for what you might face out there, I’ll give a brief rundown of the things we might encounter. It might not be all of it. We’re constantly encountering new dangers in this world. But here are the notable ones so far when it comes to the Third Party.

Cultists:

In other words, the Third Party. What do they want? To permanently end the cycles of life and death in this world and make everyone become one with the world. How are they going to do that? Kill everyone through ritual sacrifice. To that end they’ll either try to capture you to drag you off to be sacrificed or kill you outright on the spot if they can’t drag you off for whatever reason. They’re organized like this…

Common Troops: Berserker hordes basically, and the main numbers a draftee will face. They are proficient fighters, strong and durable as your average soldier, and fuelled by fanaticism. They aren't usually well equipped but they make up for it in fierceness. They're formidable, but they can be taken.

Elites: They're... tough. They can make use of extensive elemental shifting, like our own filial magic, and shift weaponry to use. They are all very skilled combatants and should not be taken alone by anyone but experienced and powerful fighters. You can identify them by their armour and their arms - they are better equipped for battle than the common soldier.

The General: The leader of the Third Party and the most powerful member we know of. He fights using blood, mainly his own blood, and shifting it into weapons. If you are cut, he can also force his blood inside of you and take control.

[There’s more he could say on the General and the schism they learned about in the Third Party, but not now. What he needs to get down are the facts people need.]

Shifters:

Typically protected by other soldiers, these cultists fight by using shifts to wreak havoc with their enemies. You can identify them by their glowing eyes. Do not underestimate them. They are all very dangerous. They come in three kinds.

Power Nullifying Shifters: The most common. They will disable special abilities (super strength, speed, flight, for a few examples) and any advanced technology, leaving the target weakened and reduced to a normal state. One of these shifter can only disable abilities OR technology at a time, but don't be surprised if a couple team up to disable both. If you spot them, it is advised you take them out as soon as possible at a distance, for when they get close, you are in range to be affected. We saw them first on the Southern Farmlands draft, around two years ago.

Power Copying Shifters: We've only encountered them once in a mission to Segretar. What they do is exactly what their name implies. They copy a person's abilities to assault them or others with.

Dream Shifters: These are the most insidious. They tend to lure their targets into a dream state and keep them there to keep them docile until they are killed or sacrificed. Once in the dream, they create a perfect world for the dreamer - whatever the heart desires and is least willing to let go of to keep them in the dream. Then the Shifter hides as an element of the dream. A second person must go in, convince the dreamer that the dream is just a dream and not reality, and to find and kill the Dream Shifter. Expect the Shifter to fight this by whatever means possible - preying on psychological fears and desires. It is difficult to get out, so be wary and take care not to get caught. We saw them first on the draft to the Moon last summer.

Shift Hunters:

Vicious giant beasts, with razor sharp teeth and keen senses. They travel in packs. Think wolves, but much, much uglier. They have the abilities to sense shifts so anyone who has: recently been kidnapped, struck with a shift incompatibility, OR has recently been using filial magic is a target. Do not use Filial magic unless absolutely necessary. They regenerate rapidly, the most severe wounds disappear within an hour, so the only sure way to put them down and keep them down is beheading of some sort. No exceptions.

Us

We’re likely not going to be fighting alone out there. In the beginning, we did. But now, more and more, other enclosures, other people like us are in the fight. As well as the Malnosso Security Forces. Some of them we have rocky relationships with, like Kin’cora... the other enclosure in our region, Region Six. Some might not even know about us, aside that we are Luceti. So when you’re out there, take care in your actions. Some day we might need some of these people’s help. Or we might be forced together in other unpleasant circumstances. It’s something to think of when you’re out there.

[It’s time to put the lessons of Kin’cora, the rumours of Vaskoth, and the incident with Korras Blake to use.]

… I realize this is a lot to swallow in one go. But it is what it is. The Malnosso aren’t going to reply to this, no matter how much people protest. Or relent on any choice they’ve picked for the draft. What people need to concentrate is what they need to do to survive and get through the next period of time.

We’re not puppets. We may not have much choice but we can chose how we go about handling this.

See you on the field.

[After that’s over, Law goes in search of Itachi. He needs to break the news to the ninja that they’ve both been drafted.

But knowing his partner, he already well knows.]

If all goes well, hopefully. It's an important job. The healers need all the help they can get, especially when the injured start to be brought in.

...Eugene. Jack. You both and Max are. You have been drafted.

[His voice doesn't break- but it is a very near thing. He doesn't go to their side though he wants to. Wants to hold them and find some way to protect them from whatever it is they might endure. No, that could wait until later tonight, after they'd made some form of plan.

And he was never too good with plans. What he wouldn't give for the Warden at this moment.]

Say with the medics. Whatever you do- stay with them. They will be working somewhere safe and that will keep you both out of danger.

Are you trained to use a knife? [Vastra can't imagine someone who could use a particular weapon not having that particular item, especially when imprisoned. She, for example, had an entire wall of her swords just waiting for an occasion like this one.]

[Some of his friends had been stuck in the draft and the more he looked, it sounded like kids were too. He's angry, at all of this. The more he looks into these entries... this sounded like a warzone they were getting into. In wars people died. People got killed, right? That was the definition of a war.

He couldn't do that here or now. He wouldn't do that.]

I'm going to be working on some stuff for the next two days. I'll get some spare tasers ready for anyone who might need it.

[True to his word, Cross is going about the village, gathering up any and all the materials he needed. The item store holding a basket and dropping whatever chemical cleaner, alcohol, and other mish mash of metals he can get.

When he's done, he's at his apartment making the things he needs. Flash bombs, bombs, tasers. Whatever.]

So it's entirely possible they could set controlled fires, which are far more dangerous than accidental ones. Really, the presence of intelligence opens up a host of interesting outcomes.

Well. They didn't waste much time, did they?

[Artemis had been told there was a war going on outside the barrier, but she hadn't expected to be called on to take part of it quite so fast. The sight of her name on that list leaves her feeling a little shocked, but she swallows it down.

Instead, she goes about checking all her supplies, her weapons, her ammo, making sure there's enough left behind that she can continue to make new stock when she gets back.

After that, she just sort of flops down on her couch with her journal, watching the reactions of others spill out and trying not to feel nervous about what's now looming ahead of them.

She almost wishes they hadn't given a head's up beforehand.]

[Jade just can't let a source that has information he doesn't go untapped. Not when piecing together all the information he missed out on, either gone with his memories from his previous stays or learned by others during his absence, could give him an upper hand in the war.]

I certainly appreciated the sentiment, as unusual as it was. [Seeing that physical proof of his past self in Luceti bothered him on some level - but it was enlightening in another.] Has it truly been so long? Mm, you must be one of those people whom this place just does not want to let go.

[Why anyone would send him on a draft was puzzling to him, but he'd done some training in the way of offense and defense. Katniss had shown him how to shoot a bow and arrow, and he wasn't too bad with a gun, either. But his first response was to try and reassure Zevran, smiling softly.]

Yeah I think I'd only be useful with medics-- or from a sniping point maybe?

[The more he thought about it the more it sank in he was going to likely go into something horrible. What with how Zevran was responding. Surely he'd have faith in Jack's capabilities to miraculously avoid imminent death]

I'd say the same for you. Stay with us? We're all going together, it seems.
