[Locked to Residents]

[Appearing on the journals is a written message as follows. A voice option is provided for a computerized reading of the text.]

Attention Luceti Residents.

The following names are being called to participate in a strike against the cultist hordes:
[the names listed here appear on the journal.]

All subjects are required to arrive at the tunnels at 8AM on the 27th of March for deployment. All listed individuals are required to be present. Subjects will then be escorted to TERRACE for battle preparation and further details.

Target will be Region One, a former Malnosso stronghold, presently in cultist hands. Subjects are advised to prepare for combat in forested areas. Further information will be made available at TERRACE. Questions and answers will not be provided at this time.

[The Malnosso will not reply to this message, but everyone is free to use this post to discuss among themselves, whether using voice options on the journal or doing action threads.]

[The last time Vastra was in Luceti, she'd heard stories of this sort of thing happening. So she's not entirely surprised to see her name on the list. Fighting for someone else's territory though, sounded about as pleasant as spending the day in endless Scotland Yard debrief. It was boring, it was aggravating, and it took up time she could use to do other things.]

[But at least when she was working with Scotland Yard, she felt some sort of attachment to what she was doing. London was always safer as a result of her work--this... well Vastra has no idea how this benefits her at all. She's fighting someone else's war, someone she doesn't even know, and that's primarily what rankles her. But that grudging acceptance of her being drafted is the only resistance she puts up, because she imagines that actively resisting isn't going to work at all. Some cultures have ways of assimilating soldiers, and Vastra doesn't want to find out if the Malnosso are one of these cultures--even if the results are temporary.]

[Voice]

I am assuming that from the lack of an end-date, no one knows exactly when we are to return here. And I also suspect we are expected to pack lightly, as it sounds as though we are to be dropped into a forest and expected to defend it.

Given the lack of "questions and answers" from those leading this campaign, any observations from veterans to someone unfamiliar with the process would be appreciated.

[Action]

[And while Vastra is fairly unperturbed by the notice, she does feel that working primarily in an urban area has stunted some of her more basic fighting skills. So she's practicing climbing trees in the forest--quickly. Not that this would be her ideal fighting situation, but a high place could come in handy. It also makes her think less about what could potentially be waiting for her in this completely alien setting, and focuses her slowly building nerves. The entire situation was, delicately put, ridiculous on many levels.]

Bring what supplies you can carry that won't weigh you down too much. They usually provide us with food and weapons for the unarmed if they need or want them, but don't assume they will.

My advice, anyway.
eversohungry: (going to need the swords)

[voice]

[personal profile] eversohungry 2013-03-25 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I have my own weapons, fortunately enough. The better question would be how many I should bring.

[Because clearly if one of her swords happened to fail, the likelihood of there being a way to repair it is most likely slim to none.]

However the lack of timeframe makes this difficult to judge.

What you can carry without it weighing you down too much. That's how many.
eversohungry: (No not the Turkish man)

[voice]

[personal profile] eversohungry 2013-03-25 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, considering I am able to carry approximately four times my own body weight before I start to have difficulty, I suppose your answer is I should bring everything.

[Little smart aleck human.]
shenevermisses: (Determined)

[Four times. Now, that? Is impressive. Muttation level impressive, but that seems to be common around here. So Clove? Will take that.]

Probably. Don't know what we'll run into or how bad it'll get. So prepare for the worst.
eversohungry: (force field)

[voice]

[personal profile] eversohungry 2013-03-25 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
'The worst' often comes in unanticipated forms, otherwise it's simply 'the expected however still inconvenient'. If I could even plan to break a sword every day for a week, it would be appreciated. However there is no point in bringing seven blades if we are to be on the ground for two days. Then it's simply bulk for the sake of bulk.

How exactly do you plan to prepare for 'the worst'?
shenevermisses: (Predator instincts)

[personal profile] shenevermisses 2013-03-25 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Expect to be cut off from all supplies, overnumbered. Forested area? I'd prepare to escape from a fire, too.

My goal is always this: survive. No matter what it takes.
eversohungry: (she's definitely a girl)

[voice]

[personal profile] eversohungry 2013-03-25 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
My, how dramatic. [There's a smile in her voice though.]

A fire, though... that could be interesting. How intelligent do you suspect the enemy is?
shenevermisses: (Default)

[voice]

[personal profile] shenevermisses 2013-03-25 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
At least human intelligence. Possibly smarter than that.
eversohungry: (I know how you can blush)

[voice]

[personal profile] eversohungry 2013-03-26 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
So it's entirely possible they could set controlled fires, which are far more dangerous than accidental ones. Really, the presence of intelligence opens up a host of interesting outcomes.

[And by 'interesting', she means 'potentially unfortunate'.]
shenevermisses: (Dangerous focus)

[voice]

[personal profile] shenevermisses 2013-03-30 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd say it's pretty likely. Controlled fires to draw us all into a trap or something.

[She's seen that one happen.]

Indeed. I noticed your name on the list as well.

Yeah. Looks like I finally get to even the score with some Cultists.
eversohungry: (Somewhere far from a clue)

Re: [Voice]

[personal profile] eversohungry 2013-03-26 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
[Vastra chuckles, quietly.] Are you usually this enthusiastic to 'even a score' with so little information?

Re: [Voice]

[personal profile] widows_kiss 2013-03-26 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
They tried to blow me up last time I tried to get information from them. I think I'm entitled to a little score-evening.
eversohungry: (It always begins with the same two words)

Re: [Voice]

[personal profile] eversohungry 2013-03-26 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I would feel the same. I suppose I am the only one concerned that there is no target withdrawal date.

No, I am a little as well. But then again, I'm used to certain tasks being a little... open-ended.

Re: [Voice]

That is fortunate, at the very least. In all honesty, a few of my particular missions have had a tendency to drag on as well, however I can at least give myself an estimate based on the preliminary assessment of the enemy. In my opinion, the most trying element of this situation is the lack of information. An estimate of numbers would be ideal, more ideal than 'expect trees'.

At least they didn't tell us to expect polar bears. Not that I'm very fond of the 'trees + cultists' mix after last time.
eversohungry: (You gave them one hell of a start)

Re: [Voice]

[personal profile] eversohungry 2013-03-27 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
...polar bears. [There's a definite grimace in her voice.] Yes, I would take the cultists over polar bears. Any day at any time.
