Attention Luceti Residents.

The following names are being called to participate in a strike against the cultist hordes:
[the names listed here appear on the journal.]

All subjects are required to arrive at the tunnels at 8AM on the 27th of March for deployment. All listed individuals are required to be present. Subjects will then be escorted to TERRACE for battle preparation and further details.

Target will be Region One, a former Malnosso stronghold, presently in cultist hands. Subjects are advised to prepare for combat in forested areas. Further information will be made available at TERRACE. Questions and answers will not be provided at this time.

[The Malnosso will not reply to this message, but everyone is free to use this post to discuss among themselves, whether using voice options on the journal or doing action threads.]

We are only cannon fodder if we choose to be as such, Mr. Kirk. [Though frankly, from her tone it can be inferred that she's not too happy either.] I doubt that resisting the draft will accomplish anything, however I also doubt either of us intend to be right at the front and willing to die for something that ultimately has no bearing on our lives.

I doubt resisting will do much either, but they can sit there and listen to us complain about it. Though, I guess that just might provide entertainment.

And no one wants me at the front. I'm an up front sort of fighter.

I am not one for rifles and firearms either Mr. Kirk, however staying away from the front line is a method of ensuring you aren't the first to die. Which I believe is what we are both attempting to accomplish.

Yeah, it means I'm not the first to die, but I don't feel good about letting other people run out there to be the first, you know? I'm used to space combat, not this.

Ships and so on? Yes, then I suppose this would be a little out of your element.

Just remember Mr. Kirk: discretion is the better part of valor. The desire to protect could get both you and the one you aim to protect, killed. I suspect most everyone on this list can take care of themselves to a certain degree.

And... it'll sound stupid, but I'll do what I can to keep people from dying - without making stupid decisions. Believe it or not, I'm capable of smart ones.

Ah... [Vastra sounds as though she's picked up on Kirk's displeasure. She is, after all, a Victorian. But still, she does have a habit of insensitivity.]

Yes, of course. I did not intend to imply you were incapable. The lack of information on our upcoming battle has set me on edge.

It would set anyone on edge. Facing the unknown... is hard. And I don't like going into fights with no real info.

On that subject, we are of the same opinion. [Vastra sighs.] And apparently there are children on this draft as well--I didn't know they were even eligible.

I didn't either, and it just makes me hate the Malnosso more. They're children. Children don't fight, children don't need to see that, be part of it.

I would agree, though in some cases it is inevitable. This doesn't appear to be necessary though--unless these children have some sort of beneficial ability and are willing to volunteer.

Even if they have special skills - they're kids. I mean, I have a seventeen year old on my ship, and I still feel kind of funny about that sometimes.

Not all children have the privilege of a quiet childhood. And sometimes the most we can do is provide quiet moments, 'funny' as it may seem. At the moment, we seem to not be in a position to affect the policy, and as such we must vie to change the end result of the poor policy.

And by that I assume you mean make sure the kids get back safe and whole.
