[Locked to Residents]

[Appearing on the journals is a written message as follows. A voice option is provided for a computerized reading of the text.]

Attention Luceti Residents.

The following names are being called to participate in a strike against the cultist hordes:
[the names listed here appear on the journal.]

All subjects are required to arrive at the tunnels at 8AM on the 27th of March for deployment. All listed individuals are required to be present. Subjects will then be escorted to TERRACE for battle preparation and further details.

Target will be Region One, a former Malnosso stronghold, presently in cultist hands. Subjects are advised to prepare for combat in forested areas. Further information will be made available at TERRACE. Questions and answers will not be provided at this time.

[The Malnosso will not reply to this message, but everyone is free to use this post to discuss among themselves, whether using voice options on the journal or doing action threads.]

[She shouldn't be fighting. In any other case, she would have yearned for the chance to be drafted after so long, but she is in no condition to fight.

Daisy fears for Keimi and her team, more than herself. She is afraid she would be a load in this battle with so many coming and not even getting to see things herself. Even then...

She was a Spartan. This place taught her that a Spartan was not augmentations and armor. It was pure human spirit.

Her expression turns solid.]

All units.

Briefings for urban warfare and jungle warfare are still in effect. Adapt your use of them as you see fit for the forest and for the man-made environment of the stronghold.

Make pairs of mage-user and tech-user, grab the gear suggested in these guides, and keep yourselves in touch via radio.

[He'll add his support to this.]

Forests get cold at night. If Albert Silverberg is correct, this will be especially true at high altitudes. Dress for cooler weather. You can always remove layers.

[She mentally thanks Shikamaru for this. He's always got a keen eye for these reports.]

Forests don't have the same density of flora and fauna as jungles, and so the blocking of sunlight and the concentration of heat won't be anywhere as severe as there.

This doesn't mean anyone should get careless. We don't know how maintained these forests are, and how many animals are out there.

No. But between the possibility of that and the Cultists, everyone should make sure they can stay mobile. That's going to be key whether you're a combatant or not. Come prepared, but don't over-weigh yourselves.

Whoa.

[Cliff quickly called up the documents-- the titles themselves were enough for him to get the basic gist, and he would look through them later. Odds were that he knew some of these things, but it was always good to get multiple sides of things.]

Handy info here, Ma'am. I've gotta ask. These radios...one of my friends and I have our communicators from home. Would they work here? Is there a way to sync the frequencies?

[She recognizes this voice. It's one of the two that fought the other day and insisted on it.

...

Daisy takes a deep breath. She is here to help.]

Make several tests and try to synchronize them. If the communicators work with technology like the radios, then they could be compatible. I'm not sure if radios can work with magic otherwise.

[On the other hand, Cliff didn't recognize her at all. Perhaps it was the green hair...

He laughed.]

I had a hunch that'd be the case. They're not magic, that's for sure. I was mostly asking in case there were any others who tried to sync higher-grade tech with this stuff. These radios are so far out there that you've gotta wonder about backwards compatibility.

They should be. Equipment from my world is still compatible with most forms of it created seven hundred years ago.

Encrypted channels are something else. But I think it shouldn't be hard to request something that could decode them.

Huh. It's 'bout the same for me. I'll need to give that a try. The encryption too, something might come up that's best to keep quiet till it's done. It's the best way to stay on the DL, and keep people safe.

Agreed. I've never seen them use radios, but don't get careless. In one draft they used modern anti-vehicle weaponry -- firearms meant to pierce metal.
aerialassault: (uncool -- not sure)

[She would have seen his surprise had there been a video function. He knew that this place was low-tech, but that was higher grade than he anticipated.]

You mean AP shells loaded with incendiaries?

[Weapons tech. Machinery. He knew a few things.]

14.5x114mm M232 rounds, high-explosive anti-tank rounds, fifty cal rounds with machineguns... you name it.

They're don't use them often. But many know how.

With all due respect, sir, don't tempt fate. Sometimes they take us by surprise and bring something like that on the battlefield.

Aah. Right. [There's a rapping sound nearby.] Knock on wood. Let's hope they don't pull the big guns on us. That'd be a pain.
