Attention Luceti Residents.

The following names are being called to participate in a strike against the cultist hordes:
[the names listed here appear on the journal.]

All subjects are required to arrive at the tunnels at 8AM on the 27th of March for deployment. All listed individuals are required to be present. Subjects will then be escorted to TERRACE for battle preparation and further details.

Target will be Region One, a former Malnosso stronghold, presently in cultist hands. Subjects are advised to prepare for combat in forested areas. Further information will be made available at TERRACE. Questions and answers will not be provided at this time.

[The Malnosso will not reply to this message, but everyone is free to use this post to discuss among themselves, whether using voice options on the journal or doing action threads.]

[The door bangs open, firelight spilling into the courtyard.]

[He takes his shoes off when she calls, and heads into the shrine towards her, settling on the floor nearby.]

Hey. How are you? Your name was on the list too.

I will be fine. I've been on drafts before, and I'm no stranger to fighting.

Will you be alright?

[Her smile, faint though it is, is genuine]

Uh... If I say I'm terrified will you laugh at me? I mean I feel like I should uphold a whole macho guy thing here.

[He grins back though.]

I wouldn't dream of laughing at you. I'm a soldier and I'm frightened.

[She pats a cushion next to her and the fire.]

Sit, I have tea. And a gift.

That's a relief then. I'm definitely not a soldier.

[He goes to sit down gratefully and the shrine really does have a calming atmosphere, be it the wards or just the general mood of the people who frequented the place.]

A gift? You really didn't need to. It's not even my birthday.

Have you ever been in a battle before?

[It's an offhand comment, as she pours out steaming mugs of tea, sliding one over to him.]

It's for the battle. It will protect you.

Once or twice. I have a few tricks but it's not something I've been trained in. Before I woke up here I fought a minor Sidhe prince, but it was more a battle of wills than an actual fight.

[He takes the tea gratefully, wrapping his hands around it.]

Thanks. You- thankyou. If there'd been more warning I would've made a few shields but they take a while to enchant for anyone else to use.

Alright. Well, as strange as it might sound, why don't you stay close to me?

[Sipping quietly, she reaches into a small chest and pulls out a small charm]

This will help. It may not be a shield but it's something.

I think that's a wise idea. We'll just have to see what the situation is like when we get there.

[He looks curiously at the charm.]

I appreciate it. I think we can all use all the help we can get. Feels like everyone I know is going.

They very likely are. A lot of people I know are too. Drafts are...usually big.

Seems that way. Most of the enclosure. I'm guessing that means a hell of a lot of people to fight against.

[He can't even really consider them enemies. He's got no idea about the who they're fighting or who they're fighting for beyond what's said in the Guide.

He lets her slide it over his wrist and examines it for a moment.]

He gives her a sharp look and then swallows, giving a small nod.]

[He smiles a little at the question and nods.]

I can store energy in threads, use it up later. I've got a few stocked up. As long as I can rest and eat and sleep, I can replenish whatever I use.

I was planning on packing fresh dango. I think I can manage sandwiches.

[Her head bobs in understanding]

Good. If it comes to it, I'll make sure you have time to rest. As Mars, I do not need to sleep, eat, or even breathe, really.

Cool. I'll bring pop and we'll be set.

[He raises an eyebrow at that and nods.]

Impressive. And here I didn't even inherit the fun parts of my bloodline.

It's less an inherited bloodline and more...something I was born. Or reborn, really, to do. I'm...not really an ordinary human.

I kinda gathered there might be something more when you went walking in the snow in a skirt and heels.

I'm just not entirely human. My family has faerie blood. And other things.

Uh, it contributes, I think. Plenty of pure humans have magic though. But nearly my whole family have been mages for as long as anyone can remember.
