[Appearing on the journals is a written message as follows. A voice option is provided for a computerized reading of the text.]

Attention Luceti Residents.

The following names are being called to participate in a strike against the cultist hordes:
[the names listed here appear on the journal.]

All subjects are required to arrive at the tunnels at 8AM on the 27th of March for deployment. All listed individuals are required to be present. Subjects will then be escorted to TERRACE for battle preparation and further details.

Target will be Region One, a former Malnosso stronghold, presently in cultist hands. Subjects are advised to prepare for combat in forested areas. Further information will be made available at TERRACE. Questions and answers will not be provided at this time.

[The Malnosso will not reply to this message, but everyone is free to use this post to discuss among themselves, whether using voice options on the journal or doing action threads.]

[Definitely not pleased to see Yun's name on there, though she had been getting better at her archery. She's not skilled enough yet to be in a battle. But at least his name is on there so he wouldn't have to go with a backup plan for trying to relay some information to either Specialist Davis or the Commandant.]

And to think, I had thought we would have to wait another month. Truly, nothing can ever be predictable in this place.

...Especially when it comes to war. We can never predict when these battles will take place.

[Of course, thoughts run rampant through the sage's mind. Hopefully he won't suffer the same horrors as last time. Hopefully Ewan will keep himself out of trouble. Just to name a few...]

One can predict far better when trying to retake territory rather than when trying to defend it. But if the Malnosso feel confident enough to try and regain lost ground things must be going well out there.

Indeed. However, anything that requires our aid must be a serious situation, especially considering the time they've given us to prepare.

[Perhaps two days can be considered generous, but they'll be gone in an eyeblink.]

That merely means they need more soldiers on the field and all of us are expendable to them. If it was a crisis we'd not get time to prepare like we did last time.

Expendable...? Because we can return from death?

[That does not make it okay...]

And our losses can be removed.

That makes us expendable? Would we still be expendable if our deaths were permanent?

[Oh, there's plenty more, but Leonhardt won't get into that where the Malnosso can see.]

It does, because in the end we lose nothing. Also, we are skilled fighters and have very few casualties in each battle.

[He muses to himself for a moment.]

I don't believe we are so expendable. Because we are stronger than that.

Oh? Then why send people who cannot even fight?

There are other tasks besides fighting. Healing, emotional support, devising strategies, and so on. Even the non-combatants are not so easily broken. We have pulled through this many battles. Why break now?

I'll hope that this one goes better for you as much as for myself.

[Some of Leonhardt's last few missions have made that last draft look pleasant and fun. He's starting to catch up to Kain in number of times he's died now.]

As long as strange infections do not become normal it should be fine.

The same applies to you. Even if we can later regain what was lost, it is still time spent. I would prefer not to owe John any more for his assistance.

I agree about that. I've already been to him in the past, and I doubt he'll be pleased that I must return yet again.

[And maybe next time they ask for a penalty removal they should ask if there is a frequent removal club or something.]

I cannot even understand how you could tolerate being without your voice so long. I found it infuriating after a few months.

It can be aggravating at times... [At first, it was something about self-punishment and a reluctance to trust John. Though he knows Rydia and Cecil both would have him remove it sooner. Other penalties have gotten in the way a bit, more recently, he can admit that.] I suppose after so long I've hardly noticed it. Although now that I have a dragon I may be looking into it soon, for better communication with her...
