[Appearing on the journals is a written message as follows. A voice option is provided for a computerized reading of the text.]

Attention Luceti Residents.

The following names are being called to participate in a strike against the cultist hordes:
[the names listed here appear on the journal.]

All subjects are required to arrive at the tunnels at 8AM on the 27th of March for deployment. All listed individuals are required to be present. Subjects will then be escorted to TERRACE for battle preparation and further details.

Target will be Region One, a former Malnosso stronghold, presently in cultist hands. Subjects are advised to prepare for combat in forested areas. Further information will be made available at TERRACE. Questions and answers will not be provided at this time.

[The Malnosso will not reply to this message, but everyone is free to use this post to discuss among themselves, whether using voice options on the journal or doing action threads.]

Maybe you could write the scrolls to key to my blood if the normal method doesn't work. [There's the sense of drifting for a moment - the pirate consulting the remnants of the hunter-nin within him.] ... like... how it is with summons.

[He'd rather they try the normal way first. It is not good for a medic to keep cutting themselves, given their constant exposure to contagion.]

That's a possibility, yes.

[Though one he wants to avoid as well.]

...On a similar note, how have you been doing as far as you Haki is concerned?

I'm not a master yet, that takes years, but I've progressed enough in Kenbunshoku and Busoshoku that I wouldn't consider myself a novice user either. My control has greatly improved, and while not perfect for some, I've got down the common techniques, and the beginnings of more advanced ones.

[He's been his own teacher. It's good progress considering.]

My skills at perception remain my stronger aspects of it.

The perceptiveness you have naturally may have something to do with that.

[The ninja pauses a moment in passing to reach out for Law's hand, taking it in his own. Though also a sign of affection, the main reason for this is to get a feel for the pirate's chakra.]

Could be. Most people are born with one type they're naturally better at.

[It's also that he's needed the Kenbunshoku in more situations than the Busoshoku.

Law runs his thumb over the ninja's fingers fondly. Law's chakra doesn't seem very different at all when you filter through the currents of the Devil Fruit. Certainly not incompatible.

Which would explain the AU experiment. The man's body hadn't been altered aside from Devil Fruit abilities stripped. And he had been capable of high level ninjutsu.]

[He lays his palm flat against Law's, a thoughtful frown on his face.]

Yes, I think I can get it to work.

[Law smiles slightly at their hands.]

That's good to hear. What do you intend to do?

Scrolls can be sealed with palm and chakra recognition. I'll simply set it for both of us.

I see. So all I have to do is funnel some chakra into it?

[He could funnel Haki into it... but would that be the same?

No matter, he'd learn if that was the case, and that was all there was to it.]

That should be enough, yes.

[He nods.]

Okay. I'll have to practice on a spare scroll. Work out any problems before we get up there.

[The ninja retrieves a scroll, unrolling it on a nearby table. Then, with a brush and ink, he begins inscribing several characters on its blank surface, followed by two large circles.

Done with this, he reaches for Law's hand again.]

Place your right palm in the center of the circle here.

[He moves to lay his hand on top of the pirate's, keeping it in place.]

Alright.

[He does so, feeling the ninja's hand settle on top of his own and stretches out with his senses... trying to sense anything he could.

Waits.]

Now, I want you to try and spread your chakra out along the flat of your palm and out toward your fingers. The paper will grow warm if you're successful.

[Not too dissimilar from the way it is focused when learning to walk on water.]

[It's very difficult to remember what had been such a common thing with Toshio.

The memories so fragmented. What it simply had felt like.

It's not Haki. The paper stays cool to his touch and he frowns and concentrates and reaches out with Haki to feel Itachi.

It never feels like Haki when Itachi is working genjutsu or ninjutsu and Law's had his own awareness trained on him. Similar, yes, but something more added to the mix.

Water and blood. Haki is water and chakra is blood.

He has to pour something else into it.

Law's not sure how much time is passing because he's slipping into himself. Down, down, as other memories come to a head.

His memories of the aftermath of his first kidnapping. The Haki awakened the first time. Katara.

'Your chi's... turbulent.'

'you're going to need to find a way to focus it. This can't be good for you. It's like an unstable heartbeat.'

'I'm going to try something, okay? You focus inward.'

He focuses inward.

'Do you feel the way your chi is moving now? I know Zoro could do it...'

'I'm going to do this slowly, so you can concentrate on what it feels like.'

He remembers that. How she had helped him bring it under control and showed him how to do it on his own.

And he applies that lesson here and it is so, so difficult. So much harder. But not impossible.

Not after wrestling with Haki and his Devil Fruit. Different things, but just close enough.

It's so hard. But there's the tiniest bit of warmth underneath his fingertips now.]

[Itachi doesn't move his hand from Law's.]

Just like leaving an imprint of your palm. The chakra is your ink.

[With his other hand, the ninja reaches over and lays it lightly in the other circle. Symbols spread out from the circle and remain on the page when he's finished. They have no object to seal at the moment, but in the future one could be added after this step.]

[The paper grows a little warmer and Law keeps his focus reigned tight.

Should he stop? He doesn't know.]

Just not as messy, right? [A tiny wavering smile. Weak quip, but it's the best he can do... because difficult.]

[Itachi nods.]

Almost. You'll get a feel for when you've done it correctly, and hopefully it will become easier with time.

You know how stubborn I am. I won't stop until it does.

[Okay, so he doesn't have it yet, going by that. What is he doing...

Stubborn. Maybe he doesn't need to force it so much. Maybe he's self sabotaging himself a bit. He lets out a shuddering breath and tries to relax.

Very slowly Law feels the warmth increase more and begin to spread out. Right. Okay. Better, he guesses. He won't know until he does it right. He'll make sure he learns from his mistakes in the meantime as he tries to build and spread out the heat. It's not happening quickly, but it is happening.

So until he does it right or Itachi tells him to stop, he'll keep at it.]

[Soon, something "clicks" into place, and a group of symbols spread out from Law's circle as well. Itachi smiles at his partner.]

There would be a place to put an object here, had I set it up properly. But... this does prove that you can do this successfully.

[That. That right there. That feels right and Law takes care to remember the feeling for the future.

He holds his hand there for the moment, grinning shakily.]

... guess... guess it does. [He's almost giddy (for a Law). He's feeling accomplished. He's not sure when the last time was he felt that.] So it's just the same thing to unlock it, right?

[The ninja nods, placing a hand on Law's shoulder and giving it a single fond pat.]

As I said - it will get easier.
