Clementine tries to climb up onto the stool unassisted, but there's some scrambling involved with the action. If Jack wants to be a buddy and give her a boost, it won't be refused.]

And this is why I waited to introduce you. [Just undermine him, Buffy! Go ahead!]

[ and that notion unsettles her, as much as she tries to play it off as a joke. it isn't as though she thinks horner is scheming something in her direction; rather, she finds the memories disquieting all on their own. him. her. the bar. a child. part of her wants to believe his reluctance comes from the same place as her own.
ah, well. no turning back now. buffy dumps a generous amount of field berries into the bar's blender. ] Be honest, Clem. Has he so much as mentioned me before today? I bet not.
[ she hopes not. ]

I'll be honest -- [ she supplements the berries with some orange juice. ] It is true that supplies've now and then gone to the sparse side. But we had warning. Sorta. I mean, in as much as a sudden influx of refugees could ever warn someone of...

Easy, Clem. It's just a blender.
no subject
S-sorry! [ she stammers, finally opting to just unplug the damn thing. ] I should have yelled fore. Or maybe timber. Or whatever the blender equivalent is.

Is there a lot of blood?

It takes more than a blender to...[ make me bleed ] hurt me, I promise. Everyone's a-okay. And very close to smoothie goodness. [ she glances at jack. ] Why don't you two go pick one of the much quieter booths and I'll be along with the drinks soon. Lickety split.

Clementine slowly peels herself away from Jack, eyes downcast.]
Sorry. It sounded like an accident.
no subject
Nah, see, that's just how it always is with Buffy. She makes everything seem like an accident.

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you upset with each other. [Because what is all this play fighting even. Mom and Dad never undercut one another like this.]
