[Voice]

[This voice may sound very, very familiar to some residents.]

Oh goodness!

My my, so! I imagine all of you are wondering what's going on here! I know, we don't contact you very much, but gracious me this should change! Yes. Yes, the best working relationships rely on communication and such and lovely things like that. So I shall be communicating with you, and some day we'll have some semblance of a professional acquaintance.

Possibly.

Oh, but of course the Great One has spoken to you concerning our offer! I heard that he would from the previous management, yes, and the Great One is nothing if not thorough! Naturally, I imagine he informed you of the circumstances of the agreement, but for those of you unfortunate enough to miss an audience with him, I shall summarize!

You will be contracted to fight in various skirmishes to which we will transport you in exchange for more modern accommodations within your enclosure (electricity/energy, appliances, central lighting and heat) and perhaps an end to the experimentation, if all goes well. Naturally, when you are out we will provide you with world-class accommodations! Anything your heart could desire for your quarters- well, within reason. We're not miracle workers after all! [Have a joyful laugh!]

Likewise, if you require special tools or vehicles for battle, we will do our best to provide those as well. You need only ask!

So, I ask of you, are you interested? It would be wonderful if we could put an end to all this!

If our misfortune was going to save other lives-- that would certainly complicate the issue. Not excuse the abomination....but complicate it.

That's why I have trouble believing it's that straightforward. For all I know, your thoughts and actions are not your own, either.

Doubts aside. How, exactly, does forcing men and women to feel affection that isn't their own, destroying relationships in the process, affect the welfare of people outside the enclosure? Unless your weapons are fueled by embarrassment, the connection eludes me.

A mistake? You're a damn incompetent lot, to call yourselves scientists. What was supposed to happen?

But that isn't going to stop you from doing it again?

Misplace another decimal, and you might have everyone here at each others' throats for less than amorous reasons.

......

.........but you're not going to stop the experiments.

I wouldn't know. But if human life can be reduced to mere numbers--- it has no value at all, however you've justified it to yourself.

But why do you say four hundred?

And why "give up their lives"? It has seemed to me that no one really dies here-- that this "John" can bring even those killed by the "cult" back to life.

[Refrain, huh? What do you actually know?]

Is that...such a remarkable thing in this world? I've done as much in mine. And I can do it without side-effects.

And whose hopes need to be raised, in the first place? Why four hundred?

What makes "this" sort of death different from what I'm used to? I thought death was just death

Do you mean... if someone really died here... and didn't come back-- the world would fall apart?

Or are you saying something else would destroy it?
