[At approximately 4AM in the morning of the 25th, the journals will suddenly blare with the sound of an alarm, followed quickly by this message:]

Attention, Region Six. This is an emergency. The following occupants are required to report to the teleporters in one hour to act as a reserve force for an unscheduled battle located in Region Eleven, designation Vaskoth.

[A list of names is posted.]

Those who refuse will be forcibly dragged, and we take no responsibility for any injuries obtained should that happen. Anyone not summoned will not be accepted, either as additional forces or as replacements for someone else. Weaponry and equipment not native to this world is incompatible with the nature of your location, and will therefore not be permitted. Suitable replacements may be available to you at your destination. You will rendezvous with Specialist Davis upon arrival, and he will direct you from there.

I repeat, you have one hour. Don't waste your preparation time with pointless questions. Get moving.

[All right, Richard is mildly impressed that Isamu managed to sleep through that alarm, but now isn't really the time for being impressed. Instead, he'll just reach over to shake Isamu lightly in the hopes of being able to awaken him without having to resort to more drastic measures.]

Well, the noise had brought him into a lighter state of sleeping, but his mind isn't acknowledging its importance. At the shake, he mumbles something indiscernible and swipes at Richard's hand.]

[Usually Richard is glad that Isamu is a sound sleeper who isn't easily woken by things like being rolled into or shaken. This, however, is not one of these times, and he'll just give his friend another firmer shake.]

Isamu. You need to wake up.

[Isamu blinks his eyes open blearily and stares up at his friend.]

Hm? What's going on?

We've been summoned for a draft. The message didn't give any more details than that, just that we have to be ready to leave in an hour.

[Yeah, he's about as happy about this as you are.]

...Are you shitting me?

[He groans, burying his face in his pillow so his next words are muffled.]

Yes, and Asbel too. And not only that, we aren't allowed to bring any weapons or equipment made in other worlds, either.

[It's clear from his tone that they didn't explain the reasoning behind this at all.]

Well they're just determined to make this an enjoyable experience, aren't they?

[He doesn't look pleased at all when he pops his head up from the pillow, finally rolling himself toward the edge of the bed.]

Something tells me that isn't exactly the aim of these drafts.

[Yeah, he does not have much love for them at all, not after... well. That's an experience he's never going to forget.

He's already sitting up in bed; once he's satisfied that Isamu is really up, he'll emerge from his blanket cocoon with great reluctance, shivering briefly as the air from the room hits his entire body.]

Think I can call in as worthless? "Dear Malnosso, adding me to your fighting forces will cause more harm than good. I recommend you reconsider your choices."

You can try, but if they took even me that time, you probably won't have much luck. Still, I wouldn't object if you wanted to put my name down as well.

[He squints at the clock. 4 AM? No wonder he's so exhausted.]

... then again, I'm not sure whether it was made in this world or not. It may not be allowed.

[He frowns. The announcement had said that replacement weapons would be made available when they arrived, but... he's not sure he trusts that. He at least can handle himself with magic alone.]

They said they would allow us access to weapons when we reached our destination, but I'm not sure how much faith I put in that.

If they want our help that badly, then they'd better. I don't see why they wouldn't if it would only hurt them in the long run.

Somehow I doubt they care all that much about what happens to us.

[Not when they'll just come back in a week, after all. Bitter? Perhaps he is. It's not as if they have a choice in the drafts anyway.]
