Attention, Region Six. A draft is scheduled to commence on August 25th for five days following. Your location will be the West Central Ocean, en route to Kano Harbour via three ships. Choose a suitable captain for each, and the pilots will be programmed to follow your orders. Don't waste my time with incompetence, either. Put in charge only those who deserve it.

These are the residents who have been selected to participate.

Your mission is to protect the cargo ship above all else. Within three days you will reach your destination. Opposition numbers, rank, and skill are impossible to predict, however, their equipment often prevents them from attacking at night. Remain on guard, but take advantage of the respite you may receive by night. Upon reaching the harbour, the cargo will be unloaded. You are to continue protecting it until it is safely out of range of their attacks. I would advise against swimming unless you want to die.

For those of you who were involved in the last draft, I have only one thing to say: your performance was acceptable.

I have commanded the 18-gun Retribution and the 20-gun Hotspur. I was promoted from commander to post-captain just prior to my arrival to this place.

And as for command related experience, I am Captain Trafalgar Law. I am a submarine captain from my world, and have seen many naval engagements. I know my way around a wide variety of craft. Given that we don't yet know what sort of vessels we will be dealing with, I realize I might not be the foremost choice for command. So I suggest only this, we try to settle the issue of command with the least bit of grandstanding and fighting as possible.

We simply do not have the time for it.

Several of you were targeted specifically for the fact that you have experience in commanding or serving upon these vessels. I think you'll find them familiar, more or less.

Sailing ships. Large in scale. Details and schematics can be found on the ships themselves when you arrive. You should have time to check them over.

The equipment of our opponents is unknown. I can only share what has been observed in the past. Additionally, they have the ability to disable technology at will. The droids are useless in combat against them.

The battleships are dual-powered. Sailing vessels equipped with engines. The cargo ship is primarily powered by fueled engines, but we have been able to harness solar power in case of emergency.

['Again?' is Dhaos' first thought.

'Acceptable?' is his second.

'That is an awful lot of draftees' is his third. Though the reason behind that one becomes clear once she announces the objective of the mission.

Dhaos looks over the list and realizes in exasperation that once again, his name is on it. And not only his name, this time. The half-elven professor. Sheena. And all the children of house 34... Grune. Kohaku. In a sea-based draft, he was likely to be confined to one spot-- unable to choose whether to avoid or protect those he knew.

It would probably be unwise to volunteer himself as a captain. Though he had a lifetime of experience with leadership, there were plenty of others far more knowledgeable about seafaring than he-- and of course, he was not entirely certain he could take command of a group consisting mainly of humans. Humans who'd just spent the past few days in an amusement park.]

Somehow, the timing for this feels deliberate.

Cannons and miniguns, as I understand it. You may find some sort of energy blast, but our opposition have been known to disable those quickly, so they aren't often useful for long.

This is Lieutenant Kennedy. We need to know who here is a seaman. [A beat.] Or a sea...woman. Anyone without experience can and will be trained, but able seamen are worth their weight in gold, and we can't have one ship with all of them while the other two suffer. I am more than willing to oversee recruitment... [Technically it should only be for his captain, but who knows who that will be] ...for all three ships, for now.

Sokka. I'm from the Water Tribe-- I know you've never heard of it. I grew up on the sea. Whaling ships, war canoes, coal ships, and that new ship called the Ocean's Spirit? I usually sailed on those. Also submarines and airships - I helped invent those, incidentally. So yeah, I know my way around a boat. That goes for my sister, Katara, too.
